September wet play is different
In November you know the class. In September you are still teaching how to line up. Wet play rules need teaching on day one of a rainy spell: voice levels, where bodies go, how to choose an activity. Post three visual choices and practise transitions before the lunch bell.

Low-prep stations that survive first half-term
Tabletop tower challenges with scrap recycling. Rainy day bingo if you laminated sheets in August. Phonics sound hop in a clear space for a five-minute reset. Calm colour sorting for children who find noise hard. Sticker stories at a quiet table for early finishers. Rotate every ten minutes so nowhere becomes a scrap heap.

Noise, inclusion, and supply cover
Start seated. Add movement only when the room is settled. Offer one calm option without calling it out as special. Keep a wet-play box labelled for supply teachers: dice, bingo, drawing paper, and the KS1 wet play pack. If you only print one thing before September, print that pack.

Link to the afternoon
End wet play with a two-minute tidy competition and a preview of the next lesson. Children settle faster after lunch when the indoor break had a clear finish.
