Dance with headphones or imagined music, then freeze on pause — free indoor active play for rainy days and after-school energy.

About this activity

Silent Disco Freeze Dance lets each child dance to their own playlist (or pretend music) and freeze when a parent raises a hand or pauses a shared speaker. Quieter than full-volume disco, kinder for SEN sensory needs, and ideal when summer heat or rain traps everyone indoors but bodies still need to move.

How to play

  1. 1Clear a dance zone and agree the freeze signal: raised hand, lights off, or music pause.
  2. 2Start music (shared speaker or headphones) and dance freely for twenty seconds.
  3. 3On the freeze signal, everyone holds a statue pose — last mover sits out one round or does three jumps.
  4. 4Add themed rounds: animal moves, slow-motion, or dance only with arms.
  5. 5End with a calm stretch freeze held for ten seconds before packing headphones away.
